In our 3rd Yule Calendar surprise, two hobbits go far and wide to spread the some Yule cheer.
They end up in a cold and dark place. What do they find there?

If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold,
it would be a merrier world.
– Thorin Oakenshield
Once upon a Yuletide, two hobbits decided that it was a grand day for an adventure. They had heard about a remote corner of Middle-earth which the Yule spirit had never reached before. So they filled their packs with pastries, sausages, and mulled wine, and set out for the distant cold lands that would benefit from hobbit cheer.
First, they found a dwarf who was sitting alone in the cold, just a simple campfire providing some warmth. A few sips of hot mulled wine did the trick – the dwarf was soon feeling much merrier!
Then, the hobbits found a strange cavern with all sorts of strange creatures. They decided to bring some light into this dark place where all other lights had gone out.
The local dogs looked big and fierce, but they were still dogs, loving it when someone scratches them behind the ear and gives them a gentle pat.
Cheering up others is hard work! After going through the caverns and spreading the Yule spirit (and exhausting all their mulled wine), the hobbits fell into sweet winter slumber, next to the fluffiest creature they could find.
Merry Yule to all creatures great and small in Middle-earth!
(Thank you to my friend Mermund who helped me spread Yule cheer!)
